Rosewood Abu Dhabi
Sowwah Square, Al Maryah Island - أبو ظبي - United Arab Emirates
1st October 2015

Abu Dhabi’s booming and Rosewood has proven itself in the Arab world with two fabulous hotels in Saudi Arabia – so how would their latest Arabian outpost fare? We checked it out!

Some will call it a prized location, and I am almost in agreement; Rosewood is located on the Al Maryah Island, literally on top of Abu Dhabi's most exclusive mall (The Galleria) and right next to the new Cleveland Clinic private hospital. It's also easy to get to the airport from here, as the hotel is on the airport side of Abu Dhabi city centre. The only drawback, location-wise, is the lack of beach access.
Who stays?
It's no surprise that there's not exactly a dearth of luxury properties for UAE locals (and "local ex-pats") to visit - however, the Rosewood manages to draw in the jeunesse dorée as well business people, visiting couples and weekenders. No mean feat.
Style and Character
Opulent, yet very, very elegant. It comes as no surprise that Rosewood goes all out in wowing its guests with its sheer size and wealth of facilities. What is slightly surprising, however, is how tasteful it's all done. It's downright gorgeous.
Faultless, as to be expected. I felt quite unwell on my arrival, and the receptionist showed genuine concern for my wellbeing. I was impressed with the efficiency, kindness and courteousness shown by all members of staff, whether in the restaurant, spa or at the poolside bar.
Rooms and Suites
Glorious. Spread across six room and suite categories, even the smallest, the Deluxe rooms, are of an ample size, and are furnished in a contemporary, luxurious style. The key here is the quality of the material; all is immaculate. Even a Deluxe Room here easily beats most Junior Suites in Europe, if you get my drift.
Food and Drink
You honestly don't have to leave the hotel at all. I am not exaggerating. There are nine food and beverage outlets here, all keeping the highest standards (and you know that, when you're in Abu Dhabi, those standards are high). I really enjoyed GLO, the poolside bar, as well as Sambusek, the Lebanese restaurant - but there are options aplenty, including a cigar bar, and Dai Pai Dong, the hotel's fabulous, yet casual, Chinese restaurant.
Features, Wellness, and Amenities
Another stunner is the Rosewood spa, Sense. There are nine treatment rooms with all manner of fabulous treatments. However, even if you're not taking treatments, you can enjoy the hammam and the relaxation areas with some seriously decadent features (so-called chromo therapy, sauna with fiber optic lighting and so on). In conclusion: you will feel spoiled.
Perceived Value
With its only downside being a lack of a beach, the prices are more than justified by the impeccable hard and soft product.
Rosewood has yet again proved that they are a serious contender for best luxury hotel group in the world; the Abu Dhabi outpost is undeniably impressive. Even if you're not in the mood for shopping - or are visiting town for medical procedures at the neighbouring Cleveland Clinic, you will enjoy this place.
