Grand Hotel Tremezzo
Via Regina, 8 - 22016 Tremezzina, Lago di Como Italia
26th September 2015

Quite simply the most wonderful view on Lake Como (and much more than “just” this…)

Without any doubt the most spectacular location on Lake Como: facing Bellagio (which can be easily reached by boat), where the two branches of the lake meet.
Who stays?
Honeymooners and couples of all ages and nationalities.
Style and Character
The history and charm of a grand hotel, the coziness of a family-run business - and the fresh, young character of a new generation.
One of a kind. Attentive and personalised. Valentina (owner and CEO) has done an amazing job at rejuvenating the staff, which now counts a number of young professionals (including Silvio, the hotel manager) working aside their older colleagues, some of whom have been working at the hotel for decades with the same genuine passion for what they do. The Concierge service is superb (I particularly enjoyed the rooftop butler service, dedicated to the guests of the rooftop suites), you feel pampered and looked after by friendly, smiling people who are able to anticipate your needs and will do their best to make you feel at home.
Rooms and Suites
The style is classic and elegant but not too "heavy", with little touches making each room different from the other. The recently renovated rooms are lovely - still classic, but with a fresh pastel note. The historic suites are named after some of the women who made the history of the hotel - the most notable one is the Suite Greta, featuring a huge terrace right in front of the lake. I had the luck of staying in one of the rooftop suites - contemporary in style, all facing the lake and all featuring a private jacuzzi. A glass of champagne there at sunset was quite simply the non-plus-ultra of gorgeousness.
All rooms are generously spacious, and beds extremely comfortable. Different connecting options are available for families (some even with small private garden). Tip: definitely opt for the lake view!
Food and Drink
For a breakfast fan like me, GH Tremezzo is heaven - the wonderful buffet room welcomes you in the morning with fresh pastries, juices, home-made cakes (and SO much more), opening up to the Terrazza and its stunning view to the Lake... you will rarely enjoy your espresso better than here! La Terrazza is also the perfect location for a romantic dinner, and a great occasion to try dishes by the most famous Italian chef, Gualtiero Marchesi, who collaborates with the hotel's own chef to offer guests a unique gourmet experience, inspired by the flavors of local tradition. Both the beach bar and the pool bar are great for a light lunch during summer (the pizza at the pool bar is delicious!).
Be careful with the cookies you'll find on the bed in the evening; I got addicted to them... and do not even start with the candy bowls next to the lobby!
Features, Wellness, and Amenities
3 pools (4 if I count my private jacuzzi!), two of which are directly facing the Lake, and one of which is actually built ON the Lake, with its little private beach. This would be enough already to WOW any guest. My favorite pool, though, is the third one, immersed in the beautiful gardens at the back of the hotel, next to the pool bar.
The spa is impressive for both its size (over 1,000sqm) and again the views you can enjoy from there (the infinity pool!).
The gardens at the back side of the hotel are another great spot to relax, play tennis, or go for a walk through the trees, uphill, from where the view will leave you breathless.
Perceived Value
Upper end of the scale, but wholly justified.
GH Tremezzo is a superb hotel, one of those few in Italy that maintain the charm of old times while being able to adapt to the modern travellers.
