A burgeoning economic and foodie scene has propelled Hanoi to the top must-visit cities in South-East Asia. This Vietnamese capital is awash with French Colonial and Chinese influences whilst remaining deeply authentic to its indigenous culture. RaskReviewed’s Adam Eisen had the good fortune of spending 48 hours in this fabulous metropolis.

Day 1

Check-in to Hanoi’s legendary Metrolpole Hotel, famous for its glamour, cuisine and history. Conveniently located near the Old Quarter – a great place to start exploring this timeless neighborhood with an old-school charm that few 21st Century cities can compete with. Wander through the Old Quarter’s narrow alleyways taking in the vibrant smells and atmosphere. This is the perfect place to stop and try your first Vietnamese coffee – a rich drink heavily sweetened with condensed milk that is  endemically popular throughout the country.

In the evening head to Wild Rice (6 Ngo Thi Nham, +84 49438896) for a delightful introduction to Vietnamese cuisine. Indulge afterwards with a cocktail at Don’s Bistro lakeside bar (16 Quảng An Road, Xuân Diệu, Tây H +84 43719 2828).

Day 2

In the morning enjoy a private guided tour of the city organised by RASK Travel. Take in the sights of the French Quarter, The Opera, the Ho Chi Minh Museum and Hoan Kiem Lake whilst learning about the city’s fascinating history and intriguing present. The tour will go at your own pace and provide a definitive overview of Hanoi.

The afternoon is a perfect opportunity to delve into the city’s markets such as the Dong Xuan indoor market where you will unlikely leave empty-handed. Hanoi is also home to some fabulous fashion boutiques from local designers in the Old Quarter and Ho Tay neighborhoods, which is home to eco-fashion label Kilomet 109 and the Chula fashion house.

After a full day sightseeing and shopping enjoy the hammam and Vietnamese massages at the hotel spa before tucking into a meal at the Le Beaulieu restaurant – said to be one of the best in the city.

Hanoi is well positioned for onward visits to the charming mountain town of Sapa and to Halong Bay. RASK Travel are experts in tailor-made luxury travel and can design a custom made Northern Vietnam itinerary for you.
