Soho House Barcelona
Plaça del Duc de Medinaceli, 4, 08002
17th August 2017

With so many tourists descending on Barcelona in the Summer months, it’s extra important to choose your hotel here wisely. Thankfully, Soho House have a discreetly fabulous hotel in the Gothic Quarter, set within a delicate 18th Century building.

Location
In the Gothic Quarter, just a few minutes’ walk from Barceloneta beach. Approx. 15 minutes away from La Boquería market and right across the Port Vell Marina.
Who stays?
A fashionable crowd on holiday. Mostly adults of various ages. A few people had their laptops out at breakfast or tea time but they were sure to comply with the “public spaces are a call-free zone” rule.
Style and Character
Great effort has been made to ensure the vibe is more intimate than at the bigger hotels in the city. The design is a mixture of carefully selected vintage furniture with interesting combinations of textures, earthy tones and incredibly soft towels and bedsheets, all essential to provide an environment typical of a Spanish summer retreat, with a few modern touches. As a result, the atmosphere at Soho House Barcelona is relaxed and has a great “I’m on holiday” feel to it. The fact that that people aren’t allowed to take pictures or talk on the phone while at the rooftop or the Club floor surprised me a little at first. However, after spending some time there, you sense the benefits that a no-call environment provides: it really allows you to disconnect and truly be in the moment and enjoy your time off.
Service
Excellent. As soon as I approached the front desk, I was offered something to drink. Check in was fast. I was prepared to wait since I arrived earlier than the advised check-in time, but I was shown to my room within minutes. With two desks at check-in at opposite ends of the room people traffic gets decompressed quite easily.
Rooms and Suites
Soho House Barcelona has a few different room types. I stayed in a unimaginatively named 'Small Room' (the largest is the Medium Marina Room). Despite its name, I still enjoyed a pleasantly-sized room, bathroom and partial sea view. My balcony overlooked the square and the view was lovely. During turndown service, I was provided with some ice for the house barman to prepare me a little something in my room (you need to advise the staff if you would like it) or you may do so yourself.
Food and Drink
Since my stay was short my only meal at the hotel was (a rather great) breakfast.
Features, Wellness, and Amenities
Great amenities. The Cowshed products are incredible. The Spa facilities are of top quality but even if you are not using the Spa facilities, get ready to get spoiled every time you shower with the Cowshed amenities. Exfoliate, hydrate and repeat to your hearts’ content.
Perceived Value
This is great value for money. The rooftop is the real gem in this Soho House. You’ve got sea views and interesting city views overlooking the Gothic quarter. In order to book a room at any Soho House property, remember that RASK is one of the very few travel designers that can book rooms for non-members.
Verdict
I would definitely stay at Soho House Barcelona again. I loved the city and I felt at home while staying there. If you want to enjoy a great location, beautiful views and a chilled atmosphere, this is the place for you.
