Deciding to vacation in Saint Tropez is easy, choosing where to stay is not. Thankfully RASK Star Reviewer Burak Çakmak had the pleasure to stay at Byblos – the timeless gem in the heart of the village.

For the people that want to be in the heart of action this is the perfect place to stay at. Guest have the ability to walk to everywhere in central Saint Tropez. However, being in the village it does not have direct access to the beach.
Who stays?
The owner was an admirer of Brigitte Bardot and so he created a hotel that would make it a magnet for celebrities like her to stay at. In general, the clientele are global, wealthy individuals and families looking to enjoy the South of France. A lot of guests are regulars, which reflects the culture that has been built over the years - some guests who used to stay in the 70's and 80's still frequent the Byblos, often requesting the same rooms each time.
Style and Character
The owners have upgraded many of the facilities but it still retains a slightly older feel. This is not a sleek, modern hotel, but it does have history and heritage that new hotels simply cannot compete with. The hotel is famous for its disco, and in the Summer it gets very crowded. The DJ even creates a special mix for the spa which you can listen to in the shower rooms!
It is an independent hotel that is still owned by the same family which comes across in its service which is helpful, casual and friendly. There are a lot of staff available who were both attentive and engaging.
Rooms and Suites
I stayed in a suite which had beautiful views. What is unique is that each room has a different layout and varies in decor so that you don't have the same experience each time. Some rooms and suites are more up-to-date that others. A big investment has been made in the recently renovated rooms, such as the Missoni Suite with its two large bedrooms and very spacious living room. However, as it is right by the pool this suite does lose some level of privacy.

There are certain wings of the hotel that are more private than others, so if your room is not on the busy pool side you will feel a lot more secluded. Some wings can even be hired in their entirety with complete privacy which would be perfect for a large family vacation or celebrity client.
Food and Drink
There are two restaurants - one is the B Restaurant by the pool which is casual and good for light lunches with its simple Mediterranean food. I found this restaurant good value for what is being served. The other dining option is the Rivea which is set on the tree-lined patio. It has a separate entrance which attracts people not staying at the hotel. The quality was good, and the atmosphere was nice but the key strength was the executive chef Alain Ducasse that overseas the kitchen.
If you are looking to stay in the heart of St. Tropez this is a good option and it is worth the money given its access to restaurants, pool, service and nightclub.
