TAROM B737-300 Economy Class
Bucharest Henri Coandă - Amsterdam, Boeing 737-300 Economy Class
23rd September 2015

Established in 1954, TAROM Romanian Air Transport has been a member of the SkyTeam Alliance (alongside Air France/KLM and Delta Air Lines) since June 25th, 2010. Membership allows its passengers of their SkyTeam loyalty programme to earn and redeem miles by travelling with any member airline. The company flies to 50 of its own destinations as well as those operated by its codeshare partners. It has a relatively ageing fleet of primarily Boeing 737s, and the focus is on European destinations, although a handful of Middle Eastern destinations (including Dubai, Cairo and Tel Aviv) are also covered. We tested TAROM on a morning flight from Bucharest to Amsterdam.

Check In
Queues were very long at check-in, but thanks to our Elite status in Flying Blue we were able to bypass the hustle and bustle. Our check-in attendant was quick, although far from friendly.
The Lounge
We relaxed in the lounge right up until boarding, and were again able to bypass the boarding queue due to the Elite card.
No fuss, easy and orderly.
The Cabin, Seat and Service
Service on board could have been better - we were refused a pillow on the grounds that “they were only for children.”
The aircraft, Timisoara, is best described as “vintage” - very clean yet rather worn in. Seats are noticeably older than economy class seats on board most European carriers, although comfortable with an acceptable recline. Legroom is standard (some 31 -32 inches ).
Food and Drink
The food was acceptable, given the relatively short flight time – and the fact that most airlines no longer provide free meals on short flights. We were served a small Breakfast serving of Scrambled Eggs; a Bread Roll and a Yogurt, as well as large glasses of soft drinks. Tea and Coffee were also available.
Inflight Entertainment
There is no Inflight Entertainment, apart from two uninspiring magazines - including “Sky Lady”, a magazine specifically aimed at female travellers.
The flight itself was smooth and quite comfortable with a punctual arrival into Schiphol.
While the plane had seen better days, we got to Amsterdam calmly and easily, with no fuss. A standard flight that did the job! We would happily fly TAROM again.
